Xavier
Guitar
I’m a 26 year old guitarist from Tuba City on the Navajo Nation. I started playing at 12 years old on a broken guitar. That guitar was beat up, but it wrote some of my best work. I started with classical guitar, then found tabs and taught myself the rest. At 15 I started writing for NACAP (Native American Composer Apprentice Project) spent 6 years there. During that time I wrote 6 pieces for a Strings Quartet. The last one I wrote was Copper. Copper was later featured in the documentary Navajo Nation USA, a film about what uranium mining did to the community. Check it out on Amazon. I was the lead guitarist for the heavy metal band Arrøwhead. We were a live band. Nothing was ever recorded, but we played like we meant it. In 2021, I joined Ua Local 469 Steam Fitter Welder apprenticeship. Forging metal and playing with fire all day. Later, Lex asked me to jam. I had doubts about starting something new, but I gave it a shot. That jam turned into Starfire. Now I just play guitar. 🫡
